One of my friends was throwing a surprise party for her store manager, and she asked me if I could make a coffee mocktail to serve at the party. Doing stuff like this is right up my alley! Originally I had planned on doing the mint julep, but I had a few bags of the sun-dried Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Chelelektu, and I really wanted to do a play on an old fashioned.
Combining cold brewed Sun Dried Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Chelelektu, cherry bitters and an orange peel syrup, topped with a luxardo cherry. Introducing the Cold Fashioned.

In honor of national mint julep day, I wanted to craft a coffee mocktail. Starbucks Nariño 70 Cold Brew with a mint simple syrup over crushed ice and fresh mint. This is a very quick and easy drink to make, and it is super refreshing especially with this warmer weather we are having! …
Last year I wrote about the Starbucks Shandy, and it is probably my most popular article to date! The shandy is one of those polarizing drinks; you either love it or hate it. Since it’s starting to heat up here (finally) I wanted to make a new version of the Starbucks Shandy.
Earlier this week I was asked to do a coffee tasting for our area open forum. They estimated about 300 people attending the tasting, so doing a manual brew method was out. I got the cold brew going and went to work….

The Melrose is Starbucks twist on a manhattan, cold brew, demerara sugar, cherry bitters topped with a cherry. When I visited the reserve bar in New York last month, I fell in love with this drink, and knew I wanted to recreate it at home.
When Costa Rica Las Lajas launched, I was taken aback by the intense grapefruit notes in this coffee, and thought that this might make the perfect cold brew. It is crisp, sweet and refreshingly tart. I decided to make my own version of the Melrose using this coffee.
Introducing the Wilder….
It’s summer time, so that means it’s shandy time! Typically a shandy is half beer half lemonade, but a few years ago I started playing with the idea of a Starbucks Shandy for those warm afternoons. The great thing about this drink is that it can easily be ordered and made in Starbucks stores, and it’s also quite easy to make at home
I started making these as a way to introduce Willow blend to our customers and partners. Willow is kind of the forgotten Starbucks blend, but it is absolutely delicious prepared over ice, or made as a cold brew. I call it ‘liquid sunshine’. Crisp and bright, with juicy lemon notes that blend perfectly with lemonade.
