Ethiopia Kayon Mountain

March 3, 2017 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

Ethiopia Kayon MountainMy regional director was kind enough to purchase me a year long Roastery subscription, so I am kicking of 2017 by hosting monthly reserve seminars! Starting off with the first subscription coffee of 2017; Ethiopia Kayon Mountain.

Ethiopia Kayon Mountain is from a small lot farm in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. Kayon translates to goal, and it is the mantra for the farm owners who are driven to take extra steps in the name of extraordinary coffee. Using methods that are not commonly seen in Ethiopia, such as shade growing coffee, to having their own washing station, to exporting directly. The farmers of Kayon mountain maintain full control of every step of the process.

An extraordinary coffee deserves an extraordinary tasting.

Hacienda Alsacia and the Espresso cloud IPA

October 21, 2016 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

National coffee day tasting; Hacienda Alsacia

I really wanted to do something special on National coffee day. Since I was in Sacramento, I made some vague plans with some friends to meet up at an evenings store to try the new Espresso Cloud IPA. As luck would have it, the third crop of Hacienda Alsacia was recently released in Japan, and one of my friends came to my rescue and sent me a bag.

This coffee has travelled the globe. From Costa Rica to Seattle, to Japan, to California. These are very special beans, and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate them. A group of coffee masters getting together and talking about our shared passion and our love for the craft.

Cold Brew Rwanda Hingakawa with mandarin-ginger simple syrup

June 19, 2016 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

Rwanda HingakawaWe are officially in Michigan and in our new house. As soon as we got here, I was asked if I could do a coffee tasting for the district meeting. Of course I said, yes, but internally I was wondering what on earth I was going to make. I happened to have a few bags of Rwanda Hingakawa from the Roastery and a coffee sock, so cold brew it was!

I decided to take it up a notch, and make a simple syrup to pair with the coffee. With how easy and popular making cold brew at home is becoming, I wanted to demonstrate how easy it was to make your own custom flavored syrup. You could go in almost any direction, but for the Rwanda Hingakawa, I chose a mandarin orange-ginger simple syrup….

November 16, 2015 by jocelyn 2 Comments

This is the first year that Starbucks has offered a Christmas Blend Reserve coffee. This inspired coffee is a fusion of Aged Sumatra and the second harvest of Hacienda Alsacia, and features a balsam aroma and a sweet brightness with holiday flavors of orange and mulled spices.

on the road: lavender festival in sequim

July 27, 2015 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

Every year in July, people flock to the Olympics to the quaint town of Sequim for the lavender festival. I’ve talked about how perfect a pairing Hacienda Alsacia is with lavender, so this year I arranged a lavender themed coffee tasting at the Starbucks in Sequim.

I brought my last two bags of Hacienda Alsacia and Starbucks Reserve Peru Bagua Grande. Both of these coffees really are complimented by the lavender….

on the road: belfair starbucks

My friend Tiffany works at the Roastery in Seattle, but she lives in here in Kitsap county. She started this whole “Roastery on the road”concept; bringing the coffee culture in to core stores. She invited me to join her, she would bring the coffee, and I would bring the food. Sounds pretty perfect 😉

Tiffany brought Gravitas blend, which is an exclusive blend to the Roastery. It is a blend of East Congo Lake Kivu, Papua New Guinea Ulya and sun-dried Ethiopia Konga. Deep and layered flavors of roasted plum, tamarind and milk chocolate.
