Colombia Café Mujeres with mandarin orange lava cake

July 9, 2016 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

Colombia Café MujeresColombia Café Mujeres was the Starbucks Reserve subscription for the month of June, and I had a heck of a time trying to get this coffee to my house!

My reserve subscription, even though I had updated my address before we moved, went to our house in Washington. I tried re-routing it with FedEx, I reached out to neighbors to watch for it, but the coffee had vanished. A friend suggested that I contact a partner on the reserve team, and she quickly sent a box to my new address in Michigan! I was so excited! Seeing that little black box on my doorstep is something I look forward to each and every month. Even more so since the Roastery is no longer in my backyard. I wanted to do a special tasting as a thank you to Jessica for coming to my rescue!…

Starbucks Shandy

July 1, 2016 by jocelyn 8 Comments

Starbucks ShandyIt’s summer time, so that means it’s shandy time! Typically a shandy is half beer half lemonade, but a few years ago I started playing with the idea of a Starbucks Shandy for those warm afternoons. The great thing about this drink is that it can easily be ordered and made in Starbucks stores, and it’s also quite easy to make at home

I started making these as a way to introduce Willow blend to our customers and partners. Willow is kind of the forgotten Starbucks blend, but it is absolutely delicious prepared over ice, or made as a cold brew. I call it ‘liquid sunshine’. Crisp and bright, with juicy lemon notes that blend perfectly with lemonade.

Cold Brew Float

June 26, 2016 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

Cold Brew FloastWith the fourth of July right around the corner, and the phenomenal (read: hot) weather we are having here, I am ready for cold brew floats! Last year I made one with coffee and cola and Vietnam da Lat, but this time around I wanted to highlight our Espresso Roast. All month I have been making batches of cold brew using espresso roast, and I have to say, it is my new favorite. It’s dense, rich, slightly sweet and so smooth. …

Strawberry lemonade refresher gummy bears

June 23, 2016 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

Strawberry lemonade gummy bearsWhen we drove from Seattle to Michigan, we made the drive in 3.5 days. With the exception of the first day, they were all 12+ hour days. That drive was made possible by free Spotify premium (thank you Starbucks!!) and endless amounts of gummy bears. Seriously.

Now that we are here in Michigan, it is hot and humid, and I really do not want to fire up the oven. I saw these cute gummy bear molds on amazon, and discovered that I could actually make endless amounts of gummy bears. And even better, they could be caffeinated. And they can even be pink, to match this whole pink drink frenzy! 😉

East Timor Red with mini pineapple upside down cakes

June 22, 2016 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

East Timor redA few weeks before we left Seattle, I was hearing rumors about a sun dried coffee from East Timor. My interest was piqued.

At that time, Reserve stores were featuring an East Timor peaberry from Cooperative Café Timor (CCT). This coffee comes from the same cooperative, a collaboration between Starbucks and CCT. Starbucks wondered what a natural processed coffee from East Timor would taste like, and the result is a powerhouse of fruit flavors highlighting pineapple and black cherry

East Timor Red made it’s debut at the Roastery exactly one week after I moved away. However, I am so thankful for my friend Melody, who keeps me up to date with all of the Roastery exclusives! Thank you, Melody. I couldn’t do this without you 🙂

Colombia Santana El Bolsón with sun dried tomato & thyme scone

June 20, 2016 by jocelyn 1 Comment

Colombia Santana El Bolsón

On one of my last trips to the Starbucks Roastery, I was sitting at the experience bar waiting for a friend. The bar partner, Zach, was dialing in espresso shots for the Colombia Santana El Bolsón. It was a great time, I tasted this coffee as espresso at several different shot times. What stuck with me was how savory this coffee was, bursting with herbaceous notes of thyme, with a juicy acidity. We so rarely see such a savory coffee. We see lots of notes of fruit, and cocoa, but thyme and tomato are few and far between. These coffees usually are my favorites, and the Colombia Santana El Bolsón is no exception….

Cold Brew Rwanda Hingakawa with mandarin-ginger simple syrup

June 19, 2016 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

Rwanda HingakawaWe are officially in Michigan and in our new house. As soon as we got here, I was asked if I could do a coffee tasting for the district meeting. Of course I said, yes, but internally I was wondering what on earth I was going to make. I happened to have a few bags of Rwanda Hingakawa from the Roastery and a coffee sock, so cold brew it was!

I decided to take it up a notch, and make a simple syrup to pair with the coffee. With how easy and popular making cold brew at home is becoming, I wanted to demonstrate how easy it was to make your own custom flavored syrup. You could go in almost any direction, but for the Rwanda Hingakawa, I chose a mandarin orange-ginger simple syrup….

Caramel ribbon crunch cupcakes

June 11, 2016 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

Caramel ribbon crunch cupcakesAccording to my facebook memories, three years ago today… we had just transferred to Washington, and I was missing work, missing making frappuccinos, so to ease my mind until my transfer went through, I made these frappuccino inspired cupcakes. It’s crazy to me that three years later, we have now transferred to Michigan, and I’m feeling the exact same way!

Since we are still  in the process of moving in and getting our kitchen in order, I thought I’d post this “throwback” recipe.

Vietnamese iced coffee jelly made with starbucks via

May 14, 2016 by jocelyn 4 Comments

Starbucks vanilla iced coffee viaSix days from today, the movers will be here packing up my house. I will be without a kitchen for about three weeks, so blog posts will temporarily be on hold, but I will keep my other social sites  updated! This three week break away from the kitchen is terrifying to me, but at the same time, it gives me a lot of time to map out ideas. 🙂

This recipe has been on my to-do list for a long time, and I was so excited when we got the shipment of the iced vanilla via! Since we are going to be without all of our stuff for about three weeks, we will be living off via! This recipe is simple; a two layer jelly. One with the iced via, and one with a mixture of cream and sweetened condensed milk. It’s a perfect on the go snack (or to add in your iced coffee!)…

Ethiopia Mocca java with double chocolate cookies

May 6, 2016 by jocelyn Leave a Comment

Ethiopia Mocca JavaEthiopia Mocca Java is my current muse. I have been stockpiling it to share and enjoy for the rest of the year. There is something about this coffee prepared in a french press. It’s rich, bold and sweet, like a dessert in a cup. This is one I will miss when it’s gone!

I have really been enjoying this coffee with a flourless chocolate cookies from Starbucks. I wanted to make something similar (sorry, this is not flourless!) but I wanted to incorporate the Ethiopia Mocca Java ground coffee into the cookie. The result is an intense, fudgey chocolate cookie, with a strong coffee flavor. If you don’t have the Mocca Java, not to worry, this would be amazing with Caffe Verona as well!…
